the 8th January last, I transmit to you herewith a

copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Kinister at

Peking forwarding correspondence respecting

Monsieur Volpicelli, the Italian Consul-General at

Canton.

I must leave to Your ¡xcellency's discretion, if

a suitable opportunity prosents itself, whether you

will mention his case again to the Italian Government

and ascertain whether they propose to take any action

in the matter.
